Discovering Art Through the Dialogue of Light and Shadow
2019 Dec 24
The Chishang Barn Art Museum’s exhibition, “Dialogue of Light and Shadow,” brings together four artists—including Chiang Hsun and Nick Dong—in a dynamic group show. Spanning a variety of forms such as painting, technology-infused installations, natural materials, and three-dimensional works, the exhibition highlights the boundless possibilities and diverse expressions that light and shadow inspire in art.
During a conversation at the exhibition, Chiang Hsun, who once taught Nick Dong at Tunghai University’s Department of Fine Arts, reflected on Dong’s exceptional dedication to his creative process,
“In the pursuit of beauty, what matters most is focus. That rare state of self-forgetfulness is truly precious. Only by devoting oneself wholeheartedly can greater works be achieved.”
In this exhibition, Dong’s work, Patterns of Heaven & Earth, creates an immersive environment, inviting viewers to slow down, gaze, and reflect. Much like contemplating the sky, mountains, or the wind sweeping across fields, the piece offers a space for emotional release and spiritual replenishment, allowing visitors to experience a sense of comfort and redemption.
